Picking the right Christmas wine can be tricky. With sales of Champagne plummeting and Prosecco sales rocketing, what should you be drinking this festive season?
Here are my picks:
Prosecco Superiore Valdobiaddene, Italy (£7.29, Aldi)
If the purse strings are pinching then worry not, you can still get great value for money with this easy drinking option from Aldi. Yes Aldi. Throw your preconceptions out of the window as they have converted most of the top wine journalists to their transformed wine range. If you’re looking for something with a party feeling this Prosecco is perfect.
Roederer Quartet, California,USA (£19.40, Hedonism Wines)
The next step up is hands down one of my favourite wines. Tasted blind it’s pretty difficult to tell the difference between this and Champers, only the ripe stone fruit gives it away. Plus at this price it’s genuinely a complete steal.
Bruno Paillard Blanc de Blancs (£49, The Fine Wine Company)
Made from 100% Chardonnay, this wine is 100% packed full of elegance. It is a beautifully made Champagne, far better than the brand names that might spring to mind. Trust me on this one, and you will not be disappointed.
You’ve won the lottery
Krug Grande Cuvee NV (£160, Selfridges)
Whilst for many (especially if you play football for a living) Cristal is the fizz of choice, for me there is no option other than Krug. Their Grande Cuvee is like fine white Burgundy with bubbles… Downright delicious. There is a reason the phrase ‘Krug Happiness’ exists.
