SAUVIGNON BLANC

Sauvignon BlancPersonal profile:

I’m popular, young, loud and in your face. My life philosophy is: live bold, die young. I can get criticised for being too obvious, but that’s just me. I don’t have any hidden depths; what you see is what you get. Of course, if I need to I can restrain myself and act a little more demurely, but it doesn’t happen that often. I should probably make clear that no one would ever describe me as being sweet, and I have a wickedly dry sense of humour.

Name: Sauvignon Blanc

Nicknames: Savvy B down under or Fume Blanc in California

VITAL STATISTICS

Age: Forever young

Country of Origin: Loire, France

Location:  I’m very well travelled. I particularly enjoy both the villages of Sancerre and Pouilly Fume in France’s Loire Valley, and the Marlborough region of New Zealand is where I can really let my hair down.

Like: Expressing myself and sunshine

Dislike:  Nothing really, I’m very easy-going

Body type: I’m naturally quite skinny

Children: Cabernet Sauvignon is my darling offspring

Smoking: Non smoker (but if I’m in California I might be tempted to have the odd one)

Drinking: Very drinkable

Flavours:
I like to think that I’m pretty distinctive. I have quite a few trademarks too… On the whole I’m mouth-watering and fruity – sometimes even a little bit herbaceous too. Alongside citrus fruits like lemon and grapefruit you can also often find big loud flavours of passion fruit, pineapple, freshly cut grass and elderflower as well. I’m often associated with gooseberry too.

Similar to: Chenin Blanc. Although saying that, my cousin from the Loire is generally much less in your face, and can be pretty sweet at times. I’m quite like the Spanish Verdejo grape too.

Pairing:I have enough character to not need company, although I do particularly shine alongside goat’s cheese. Asparagus can work well too as demonstrated in this recipe.

Met your match?
Well you’re in luck as I’m pretty affordable, and widely available.
